Decarbonize Your Supply Chain
By choosing GEODIS' solution, you are actively taking steps towards decarbonization and making a significant impact on shaping an eco-friendly transport industry. Your choice to transition from fossil fuels to sustainable alternatives through Sustainable Fuel Insetting is not just about reducing environmental impact, but also about advancing a more sustainable transport sector. Our insetting approach ensures global coverage for all your air and sea shipments, providing a constructive approach to environmentally-responsible logistics.
What is Sustainable Fuel?
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and Sustainable Marine Fuel (SMF) are next-generation fuels made from renewable waste materials, such as used cooking oil. These fuels have a much smaller environmental impact compared to traditional fuels and have the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 75% over their lifecycle.
SAF and SMF can be used as direct substitutes for fossil fuels, as they are chemically similar and can be used with existing jet engines and fuelling systems without sizeable additional investment. Using SAF and SMF instead of fossil fuels prevents the release of more fossil-based greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Insetting and Book & Claim
Insetting alternative fuel is a strategy to decrease carbon emissions while promoting long-term sustainability in industry projects. Unlike offsetting, which reduces carbon emissions outside the supply chain and may not always address the core issue, insetting focuses on supporting projects within the value chain, fostering a more targeted approach.
In practice, GEODIS Insetting service enables fuel switching at specific airports and harbours, replacing fossil fuels with sustainable alternatives where they are available. This leads to a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, linked to insetting certificates obtained through a book-and-claim system.

Business Case: Grundfos
Grundfos procured Sustainable Marine Fuel via GEODIS and by doing so the entire supply chain and production of sustainable fuels are stimulated. New collaborations and business models can arise, starting from the companies that collect and recycle waste materials, all the way to the refineries that produce the fuels, and the companies that transport and deliver them to harbours and ships. As an early adopter of alternative fuel services, Grundfos is raising the sails for a low-carbon future for the shipping industry.
"The development of biofuel and alternative fuels is one of the policies underpinning GEODIS’ strategy to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. We have developed the possibility of including sustainable marine fuel and similar alternative fuels for air and road transport in our freight service offers. Grundfos has already contributed to cutting thousands of tons of CO2 from its ocean shipping activity this year. Only demand from customers such as Grundfos can make this development possible."
